August 24, 2007 Lenz Power 3 Module Announcement
Large Scale with DCC suddenly has become fun. We are pleased to announce the release of our Power 3 module designed for S scale and larger models. The Power-3 module is designed as a power backup module for our Gold Maxi line of decoders. Our Gold series decoders are unique in that they have the ability to read the DCC signal even when on dirty track. For this feature to work you need to have backup power in your locomotive. The Power 3 module provides this backup power and easily installs with just inserting 3 wires into the Gold Maxi's screw terminals. On outdoor railroads dirt and track oxidation can seriously impact reliable operations especially for slow speed movements. The Power 3 keeps the decoder powered and allows the decoder to continue to receive nearly 100% of the packets transmitted. We have found the Power 3 to be extremely effective for locomotives which can move under load at 5 volts. For higher voltage locomotives a set of small batteries is an effective solution. For those desiring Direct Wireless Operations using on-board battery operation we are pleased to report that The Gold Maxi works extremely well with CVP's AirWIre system using the QSI Solutions radio receiver. This provides the exceptional performance of a Gold Decoder for AirWire users. We will release installation instructions for this option on our web site shortly.
